Get start learning Computer Application in ELT!

As standard 1.8 innovation and educational information technology of The Teachers Council of Thailand says that teachers must have basic knowledge of computer and be able to use it, so we have to learn how can we adapt computer skills, any computer applications or technology into our instructions. And today teachers have many roles to be such as organizer, instructional designer, material resource, manager, instructional guide, and facilitator

This week is the first week of Computer Application in English Language Teaching class. We studied ‘computer application in ELT’.  Teacher taught me what is internet, she taught that it is a network of people and information that is liked together, it can share. After that, she taught me some words to describe types of people about technology such as, a technophobe means a person who afraid technology, tech-savvy means a person who has high proficiency in the use of technology, a digital immigrant means a person who has come late to the world of technology and a digital native means a person who grows up using technology.

 I also learned about the selection of ELT resources on the internet. There are many useful resources of ELT that we can find and apply to our class. But to use it we have to do in the progress. According to this class, teacher taught me how to select ELT resources step by step.

1. Plan the lesson and allocate time.

2. Set the objectives.

3. Try the selected activities on the Internet before.

4. Start with non-threatening introductory tasks.

And teacher taught about CMC. So, what is CMC. CMC is Computer- Mediated Communication. It is computers connected in local or global networks and focus on human-to-human communication. CMC tools are divided in 2 types including, Asynchronous and Synchronous. Asynchronous tools enable communication and collaboration at different times such as e-mail, message board, blogs. But Synchronous tools enable real-time communication and collaboration, people in different places can communication and collaboration in the same time such as text chat, audio telephony, videoconference.

From the class this week, I learned the definition of many words about technology. It is the new thing that I have learned and how to select ELT resources is very useful for me.
