and Learning”: An Analysis.
This rapid rising and
development of information technology has offered a better pattern to explore
the new teaching model. As a result, technology plays a very important role in
English teaching. Technology provides more
opportunities for students to gain confidence practice and extend themselves,
especially for ESL students who learn the language for more than just fun.
There are some necessaries
of application of multimedia technology to English teaching such as, attracting
students’ attention, promote students’ communication, improve teaching effect
or improve interaction between teacher and student. All of necessary of
application of multimedia technology to English teaching is to help English
teaching more effective.
In the other hand,
using technology in English teaching can cause problem in classroom. If the
teacher not use technology wisely, technology would decrease teacher role and
the class could not be effective. There are some problems from using technology
in English teaching such as, teacher is taken place by technology, loss of
speaking communication in the class, abstract thinking replaced by imaginable
thinking. So, teacher do not let technology play big role instead the teacher.
This article has
suggestions for using technology in English teaching. First is teachers still
play the leading role that their position could never be replaced by the
computer. Teacher do not forget that technology just the thing that help in teaching.
Second, teacher should remember that computer screen cannot take place blackboard.
Teacher need to writing the thing on the board with emerging of new question
raised by the students. Third, Power Point cannot take the place of student’s thinking
and practices, teacher need to encourage the students to use their own mind and
speak more, actively join in class practice. And do not overuse it. Fourth, traditional
teaching instruments and devices should not be overlooked. Teachers are supposed
to choose appropriate media and instrument based on the requirements of
teaching and integrate multimedia instruments with traditional one. Fifth, multimedia
technology should not be overused.
In conclusion, I think technology
is very useful for English language teaching. It can help students improve many
skills effectively such as, practice pronunciation or listening from listening
the audio media, learning vocabulary by watching multimedia, etc. Anyway, teacher
should use technology appropriately, do not overuse it. If the teacher uses it suitably, it could make the
class be better.
